Welcome to APTOS-JSAIO 2025!

Dear Colleagues & Friends,

We are excited to announce the 10th Asia Pacific Tele-Ophthalmology Society (APTOS) Symposium will be held in conjunction with the 6th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology (JSAIO) for the first time in Japan. The joint APTOSxJSAIO 2025 will take place in the vibrant city of Osaka, coinciding with Expo 2025. We are eager to share in our meeting the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and tele-ophthalmology as we usher in a new era of health innovations.

The global ophthalmology community is increasingly adopting AI for clinical, diagnostic, screening, and communication purposes. However, more progress is warranted to maximize its benefits. To address this, the theme “RE-CONNECT” has been chosen for our two-day event on 27 – 28 June in Osaka. This theme resonates with Osaka’s history of technological advancements and is in alignment with both of the themes of the World Expos in Osaka – “Progress and Harmony of Mankind” in 1970 and “Design for Future Society of Life” in 2025.

APTOSxJSAIO 2025 aims to highlight how AI and telemedicine can bridge the gaps in current healthcare, including disparities in access, high costs, and the disconnection between ideal guidelines and actual practice. As AI advances in multiple disciplines, it can be a powerful tool to re-connect the gaps in the current practice and the ideal of ophthalmology that we envision. By leveraging AI technology, we aim to enhance the delivery and the accessibility of eye care, injecting equity into current healthcare systems. This approach to “RE-CONNECTING” the dots emphasizes the need for AI integration to solve pressing healthcare issues. It is by transforming traditional methods that we can foster a future where technology and design will work in harmony to improve lives.

The scientific program of APTOSxJSAIO 2025 will feature eminent speakers, outstanding panelists, and experts who are experienced in deploying AI and tele-ophthalmology in the real world. We hope you will find the program both informative and enjoyable.

Following APTOSxJSAIO 2025, the Japan Myopia Society Annual Meeting will take place at the same venue from 28 – 29 June. This will provide an opportunity to explore the latest research and case studies in myopia, which is a leading focus in Asia.

We eagerly anticipate your active participation in APTOSxJSAIO 2025 and are delighted to welcome you to the bustling city of Osaka, Japan!

Yours sincerely,
